Question : MS SQL Reporting Services 2005 upgrade to 2008 issues

So we have a server that run MSSQL Server 2005 w/ reporting services. This has been working fine but recently my boss made a report using the 2008 BIDS who's reports aren't compatible with 2005 Reporting Services I guess.  So on another server I decide to install SSRS 2008 and just point it to the report database on the 2005 server. Everything appeared to go fine but I can't connect on either server now! On the 2005 box I am now getting this error when trying to pull up a report in the browser:

The version of the report server database is either in a format that is not valid, or it cannot be read. The found version is '147'. The expected version is 'C.0.8.54'. To continue, update the version of the report server database and verify access rights.

And the 2005 server's event log is screaming:

Report Server (S1) cannot connect to the report server database.

The 2008 server's event log has these 2 errors:

Report Server (REPORTSERVER) cannot connect to the report server database.
and
Report Server Windows Service (REPORTSERVER) has not been granted access to the catalog content.

I'm not quite sure what is going on here and I'm not quite sure where to start either. I am going to be sitting by my computer here ready to provide additional information if needed. Thanks a lot for any help!
