Question : Installing Win7 Upgrade on new PC

I have two PCs - one (dead) with a Vista-64 OS, and one with Win7 installed that was an upgrade from Vista.

I've purchased a few parts, incl a new HD so that I can upgrade the Win7 machine and use the old parts to resurrect the Vista PC.

My question is how easy will it be to install Win7 on the new HD? It's a valid license, totally legit, but because it's an upgrade version I'm worried it won't want to install on the new HD. The Vista that was on this PC was an OEM version from Acer, so I don't have a disc for it.

Am I going to have to use another version of Vista to install first, then install the upgrade on the new HD, or are there other options that might be preferable?

What files would I have to copy to the new HD to get the Win7 Upg installer to run? (IIRC the upgrade has to be started within Windows, which  sucks.)

Answer : Installing Win7 Upgrade on new PC

Here is my experience with this. I performed a clean install of Windows 7 with the upgrade media but was not able to activate the copy of windows since I did not upgrade an existing OS.

I then used the reg hack in the following article which worked beautifully: http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs/paul/archive/2009/10/23/clean-install-windows-7-with-upgrade-media-the-answer.aspx.
