Question : Failover internet routing advice
Hi,
Just hoping for a bit of advice here.
- We have two sites connected be dedicated leased lines with Cisco 2811 routers.
- Each site also has there own internet connection using Cisco ASA 5510
- The clients use the routers as there default gateways.
- Both routers have RIP v2 setup for both 192.168.4.0 and 192.168.5.0.
- Each router also has a default router pointing to their own ASA.
What I would like to do is add a bit more redundancy to the connection by adding a extra routes on each router to point to the other sites ASA as a backup.
example for site A would be
from:
router rip
version 2
network 192.168.5.0
network 192.168.6.0
no auto-summary
route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.5.1
to:
router rip
version 2
network 192.168.5.0
network 192.168.6.0
no auto-summary
route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.5.1 10
route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.4.1 20
I would like some advice to configure the routers to have a better fail over for the internet connection like a ip sla with a ping or something along those lines.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would setup an ip sla policy on each router. This link should get you started:

Configure one side, than mirror it on the other side
