Question : use desktop monitor screen with laptop

I want to use my deskop monitor with my laptop. I hooked it up and if i move the cursor around i can see it on the desktop monitor. The problem is I can't see my programs i am only seeing the background.

I am using windows 7.0.

You can adjust in the display properties, how you want it to be.
Disable extend desktop options in the display properties
