Question : Windows XP slow to shut down or restart

I have a client's laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1520, that was recently reloaded. All the updates have been done, it's basically a new machine again. The problem is, whenever one goes to shut down or restart the pc, it takes about 10 minutes for it to completely shut down. I know it's not a problem with the services shutting down, because it will close all applications, the taskbar, etc. I'm left with nothing but the cursor and the desktop background. I've edited the registry entry, WaitToKillServiceTimeout, down to 500, and it still lags. I've also tried the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service, to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer : Windows XP slow to shut down or restart

Ran Ultimate Boot Disk for Windows, detected hard disk errors, fixed errors, but still having the same problem. Relayed problems to customer, he was willing to take the laptop as is, with possible disk errors. He said we'll address the hard drive problem if it comes up. Thanks for your solutions anyways guys.
