Question : Network adapter not wanting to install LAN drivers

I am trying to fix a Dell Optiplex Gx620 with an OS of XP SP3.  Apparently after a windows update install the network adapter has decided that it cannot find any drivers.   Everything else on the computer seems to be working other than the NIC Card.

The drivers that are showing a yellow exclamation point are:

Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit controller
Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit controller Packet Scheduler Miniport
Direct Parallel
WAN Miniport (IP)
WAN Miniport (IP) - Packet Scheduler Miniport
WAN Miniport (L2TP)
WAN Miniport (PPPOE)
WAN Miniport (PPTP)

I have the Driver CD and installed the network drivers that way but it says that they are already installed, and do you want to reinstall them and I said yes.  Still didn't work.

I have installed the driver from the Dell Website with the filename R97582.exe.  That still didn't work. I have tried to delete what's in there and install it back but nothing has worked.

I have pinged the loopback address and it says "Unable to contact IP Drivers , error code 2

I decided to then purchase a PCI network card from Staples. I installed the hardware first, then installed the drivers.  After installing the drivers, I restarted the computer.  When I go back to device manager to see if the install was successful, I see the new drivers, BUT they are also marked with a yellow exclamation point.  Plus it is telling me on the Hardware update wizard that it cannot start this Hardware.  There was a problem installing the hardware.  Windows cannot load this device driver for this hardware.  The driver may be corrupted or missing.  Code 39

I am at a loss for not being able to install the drivers for the internal nic card plus can't seem to get another nic card to work.  PLEASE HELP!
