Question : Turning off Taskbar Thumbnails in Windows 7

Hello Experts,
I am trying to turn off Taskbar Thumbnails in Windows 7 with the local group policy: "User Config/Administrative Templates/Start Menu and Taskbar/Turn off taskbar thumbnails" but the thumbnails do not dissappear...even after gpudpate and several restarts. The only way to turn it off I have found is by using a basic theme instead of Aero. Is there any way to disable taskbar thumbnails and run a Aero theme at the same time?
