Question : Microsoft Outlook.....My Inbox Structure

Hello,
I work for a large organization and I have structured my Inbox folders as to reflect the different divisions within the organization and then within the divisions I have placed folders for the appropriate personnel. The problem is this: When the tree is retracted, that is, not expanded, there is no way to tell if there are any new messages unless I go through each of the main folders and expand them to reveal the sub-folders. This seems like a bad design error on Microsofts part. It seems that if any sub folder contained a new or unread message then the parent folder would be bold or in some way show that there were unread messages within. Does anyone have a good solution for this problem? I heard there was a way to have a folder that contained only unread messages and then after those messages were read they would follow any rules applied to them and go to the appropriate folder.....any ideas?
