Question : Disabling FRS (file replication service) in windows 2003 server
Hi,
I am in the process of taking down a server (#2) that is currently part of our network. Yesterday I transferred the five (5) FSMO roles from this server over to the other server (#1) that is used as a DC.
I unplugged the server (#2) from the network, all of the users were able to log on adn authenticate as per normal. I ensured that SYSVOL and NETLOGON were accessible from the other server (#1). The problem that I have is that the File Replication Service is still running and it is trying to replicate between (#1) and (#2) servers.
Things seemed to slow down as if it was trying to use (#2) server first then would time out as it was disconnected from the network and then look to (#1) after that.
Today I connected the (#2) server back up and everything seemed to pick back up. Is this because the FRS has not beed disabled yet? Will it disable itself if I run DCPROMO to demote the server to a stand-alone server?
This is the first time that I have done this and would appreicate any help that you could give.
Thanks,
ElliTech

I think that a DBA can answer your question better than I can. Here is a documentation, maybe it will be a little help for you:
