Question : No desktop/taskbar

I have a Win XP SP3 laptop that will not provide me with desktop icons or taskbar on a normal bootup. I can get to the task manager to load apps, but I cannot launch explorer.exe.

Any idea?

Can you connect the drive to another computer then scan it that way?
