Question : Client not receiving DNS IP via DHCP.
Hi guys - I'm just setting up a small network. One server (w3k), one client (XP pro) for my studies.
Now, I have installed DHCP / DNS on W3k, which seems to be working fine. The client, which is set to get receive DHCP automatically, gets an IP address, default gateway, DHCP etc.. But it does not get the DNS IP address, of the server, 192.168.0.1
I can ping the server from the client - and when I statically enter the DNS IP address of the server. 192.168.0.1, it works fine.
Its just its not receiving it via DHCP. There is no connection issue, as 1) I can ping the server, 2) when I enter the DNS IP address statically, it works.
I have flushed dns, renew/release. But when I run IP config, the IP of the DNS server does not show.
The client is also listed in the address leases section of the DHCP.
In the DNS server properties, I have one forwarder setup. This is set to my router IP address, so it can use my ISP DNS server - so the DC can connect to the internet for updates.
Any ideas?
If you need anymore info, please ask.
Thanks.
Spencer

please verify that you have set the DNS scope or server option (006) and the (015) option for DNS Domain name on the DHCP server.
