Question : Arris Modem does not connect to Linksys Befvp41 VPN router.

Hello,

I have two offices which are networked together using Linksys BEFVP41 VPN ROUTERS.  About three days ago I changed my ISP because it was not providing good tech support and we were experiencing a lot of downtime with them. This company (the old one) uses Motorola Surfboard modems which had no problem with my Linksys router. The new company uses Arris Modems and here is were the problem stands. I connected my Linksys router's WAN PORT to the Internet port on the Arris Modem and there is no link between them. The Link light on the modem doesn’t light up and the Internet Light on my Router won’t light up either and no IP is assigned to my Linksys Router.

Here's what I've tried to make it work with no positive results:

1. Tried different cable
2. Cloned several mac addresses (another router and pc)
3. Resetted then modem several times
4. Resetted the Router several times

I did try a wireless router on the modem and it connected with no problems. I also connected the Linksys VPN back on the Motorola Surfboard and it connected with no problem.

Can anyone help me find a way to get my VPN back online? I can’t buy new router and won’t go back to my old ISP.  I tried connecting my VPN router to a wireless router that did work on the modem but since I'm not getting any IP on the wan port it won’t open the tunnel. So please helpppppp!!!

Answer : Arris Modem does not connect to Linksys Befvp41 VPN router.

Ok, so I solved this myself. I tried almost everything I found here and on the net with no positive results. I knew the problem was more "fisical" than configuration related. The modem linked to everything but my Linksys BEFVP41so I knew it had to be something happening between the Arris modem's wan port and The Linksys router's wan port. The Router's wan port is supposed to auto-switch so you don't need a cross-over cable to connect to the modem, at least connecting it to other modems you don’t. So I made a cross-over cable and Voila!!! success the modem and router linked to each other and I now have internet access, Public Ip and the works. I hope this might help someone and thank you jmd4931 for your help.
