Question : Installing a Solid State Drive (SSD) in a MacBook Pro

I have a brand new 2010 15" MacBook Pro notebook that came with a 500G SATA drive. I wanted to install a solid state drive, so I did some research and chose a Western Digital SiliconEdge Blue 64 GB SATA SSD because of its speed and power consumption characteristics.

This drive fits into my MacBook perfectly from a physical standpoint. The standard SATA connectors and mounting holes are just right. But the Mac refuses to detect it. Even when I hold down the C or Option key and boot to the Snow Leopard CD, it takes a long time to come up, and then the disk utility fails to detect the drive.

I have tried a PRAM reset a few times. I have also installed the drive into an HP laptop and it detects and runs fine.

Did I make a mistake in assuming that an Intel-based Mac with a SATA connection would accept just about any SATA drive like a PC does? I figured that if the drive behaved like a standard SATA drive, it wouldn't matter that it's an SSD, but perhaps I was wrong.

What should I try next? Or, if there is some reason why this drive CANNOT be used, is there another one known to work in MacBooks? Intel makes a 40G model with good specs I was looking at.
