Question : Advice on upgrading from OS 10.4 to Leopard or Snow Leopard

I have an Intel Duo Imac running OS 10.4.  It's got bootcamp on it and has a 32gb partition which is running Windows XP.  I need to upgrade the Mac side to 10.5 to work with an Ipad.  Are there any issues upgrading from 10.4 straight to 10.6, or is it better just to upgrade to 10.5?  I've read that I should backup the Mac side with Carbon Copy Cloner.  Is there anything available to backup the PC side too?  (All my documents are on an external hard drive).  Is there any risk that I will end losing everything?  Is it best to simply go for the 'upgrade' option with the new operating system install disk?

Defiantly backup. You should also look into exporting your emails if your using mail or entourage since not all upgrades will upgrade your mail program on the mac side.

While your PC should be fine I've seen rare cases where after an upgrade on the OS, the boot camp will not boot.

All in all your upgrade should go smoothly and only affect your mac side and leave your PC intact but best to have a backup rather than wishing one was made.
