Question : HTTP 501/505 on Sharepoint website after installing IIS6 server certificate. Error shows Linksys router responding.

My server certificate on my Sharepoint website expired and I am trying to replace it with a new Godaddy certificate.  It is set up to use standard port 443 for HTTPS SSL security.  When I try to access the site through https://sharepoint.myserver.com, I first receive a message that the security certificate is invalid.  If I try to go to the site, I receive HTTP 501/505 errors saying that the CA is not authorized and that the certificate is for a site with a different name.

Working with Godaddy support, they told me that the access attempt isn't seeing their certificate at all but is instead seeing a self-signed certificate coming from my Linksys RV042 router.  This router is Forwarding 443 to my server and the Firewall access rules are set up to permit that.

Godaddy recommended that I install the CA certificates on the router and also export the server certificate with the public/private keys and import that into the router.  Looking at the router and its documentation, I don't see how to do that.

This all used to work before the certificate expired.  However, in the mean time, I replaced an old Linksys WRT54G router with the new RV042. I don't know that it has ever worked with the new router, so it might be something in its configuration as well.

Any assistance appreciated.  Thanks...Rick

Answer : HTTP 501/505 on Sharepoint website after installing IIS6 server certificate. Error shows Linksys router responding.

Hi,

Are you able to access the site locally? If yes, then external request for the share point is not getting forwarded to the share point site.

I suspect that the 443 port is being used by the router it self. Hence change the router to use some other port.

Hope this helps,
Shree
