Question : Migration from Windows 2000 AD to 2003
We currently have a Windows 2000 AD, Windows 2003 AD and a Windows 2003 AD with Exchange 2003.
We would like to move everything to 2003 AD (forest?) and add another 2003 AD with the same Computer name as the Windows 2000 AD.
Scenario 1: We move the master role from Windows 2000 AD to a Windows 2003 AD then demote 2000 AD server, raise domain function/forest to 2003 AD
Scenario 2: Upgrade existing 2000 AD to 2003, raise domain function/forest to 2003 AD
Which Scenario is recommended or will we have better success with?
Thank you for your prompt responses
Answer : Migration from Windows 2000 AD to 2003
Your plan is reasonable but you will need to transfer all roles off your existing W2000 server - not just the master role. You will also need to think about DNS and DHCP as well.
I wouldn't consider scenario 2.
