Question : Adding additional DNS Zones
I’m looking for support in my understanding.
We’re running a windows 2003 Server and have extended our network to our sister companies via a BT leased line.
An IT team have started a project and have been using a local host’s file to identify IT assets in the sister company. We are now looking to bring these IP addresses onto our internal DNS server. All internal company IP addresses belong to domain1.co.uk and he IP addresses in the sister company belong to domain2.com.
Am I correct in thinking that all I need to do to on 2003 server is create a zone for domain2 and add the entries? Would I need to create a new primary or secondary zone on our internal server?
Answer : Adding additional DNS Zones
create a secondary zone and point it to the DNS servers at your sister company - your DNS servers will pull the zone information over.
don't forget though, you will have to enable zone transfers on the remote DNS servers for this to work.
