Question : How do I change the Read-only staus of NTFS folders under XP?
When I look at properties for file folders on my system, I see that the Read-only attribute is marked with a grey check-mark. I can clear the check-box and click on the [Apply] button and that appears to work without error. But when I again look at the properties of that same folder, the Read-only attribute is still marked with a grey check-mark.
This doesn't seem to prevent me from creating new files in the folder. (Isn't that "writing" to the folder?)
Can anyone please enlighten me about what this Read-only attribute means and why I can't change it?

Windows Explorer ignores the read-only attribute for folders by design. That option is there so you can easily make files inside the folder read-only or vice versa.
