Question : need reccomendation for mac pro raid array

We need raid array for for dual stream HD output for 3d movie that is being post-proccesed
currently the 5400k hard drives running striped raid seem to be the bottleneck and cause an occasional hickup

but we are wondering if 7200k drives running striped non mirrored raid would help at all.

optimal solution would be to have the hard drives in the computer and not an outside box.
we need at least 4tb´s of hard disk space redundancy isn´t really an issue since it will be backed up manually.

the video editing machine is
http://www.epli.is/tolvur/bordtolvur/mac-pro-2x2-26ghz-quad-core.html
installed are
kona 3 and cineform neo 3D programs
and the machine has 6gb´s of ram
we are also wondering that perhaps the memory is the bottleneck.

Answer : need reccomendation for mac pro raid array

Yes, you would most likely see a difference with your bottleneck issue if you upgraded to 7200rpm drives. But with the system being a Mac Pro, you could easily set your raid up as a RAID 0+1 which would give you the benefits of redundancy and speed.

See article: http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/perf/raid/levels/multLevel01-c.html

If you set it up with 2TB drives for each drive bay, which could be done fairly inexpensively you should see a substantial difference in speed and you would not have to worry about remembering to manually backup your data (not that I am suggesting you don't from time to time.)
