You will likely read about mixed success with people putting their hard drives in the freezer (in a ziplock bag to prevent condensation) for a few hours. This has netted them a few minutes of operation - maybe long enough to salvage a file or two.
I would recommend against this solution, but if you have NO money option and cannot afford a recovery service.....before you throw that drive in the trash, you could try this.
If you do end up doing this - put the drive into a USB cage and use it as a data drive in a second computer to get maximum drive access for your time, rather than booting a machine off the failed disk.
