Question : Keyboard Not Working

Recently our office computer (Dell running XP) became infected with a multiplicity of viruses. We installed and ran a number of malware and spyware softeware packages which cleaned up the initial problem but our usb keyboard does not work most of the time (either wired or wireless). (We have tried different keyboards, ports, etc.).

I''ve tried uninstalling the keyboard driver and it repeatedly reinstalls two instances of HID Keyboard with a yellow exclamation point.  I did per a troubleshooting site onliine edit the UPPER filters of:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 and removed the PCTCore line just leaving "kbdclass" and then uninstalled the keyboard but like I said the computer just reinstalls with two instances of HID Keyboard. I've also looked for other occurrences of extra text in upper filters of other keys with "kdbclass" but can find no other occurrences.

Not sure what can try next.

Answer : Keyboard Not Working

even if one could edit the default GAL, i'm not keen on the idea.  i believe i'd follow MS's direction and create a GAL and modify that one.  in Exch 2007/2010, it must be done via the shell.  however, using the VBS in the link it might be easier to update a custom GAL than in the shell.

thoughts?
