Question : Bluetooth Not working on Lenovo Thinkpad T60p Widescreen

I recently had to do a fresh install of WinXP on the above referenced laptop.  As a result there were some devices in the Device Manager that were tagged with the scary yellow question mark.

One of the yellow question marks was for the Bluetooth device (BCM2045B).  I went to the Lenovo site and downloaded the Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II package as suggested by the site.  I also downloaded the firmware update that was provided at the Lenovo site.  I installed the EDR Software and the firmware update.

Good news is, the Bluetooth device now shows up in the Device Manager as ThinkPad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate (mfg: Broadcom; Driver Version: 5.5.0.8801) and the Device status reads "This device is working properly."

Bad news is, when I open "My Bluetooth Places" and select "My Device" I get an error message stating "No local Bluetooth device was detected."  In the System Tray there is a Bluetooth icon with the normally white B colored red.  When I right click this icon, select Bluetooth Configuration, and select the Diagnostics tab it indicates that the Bluetooth Device is Not Detected.

How can the device manager say the bluetooth device is operating properly on the one hand, and the software you use to work with the bluetooth device for making PAN connections say it is not detected on the other hand.

BTW, the wireless switch that controls power to the WiFi and Bluetooth devices onboard is on and the Bluetooth light on the bezel under the screen is illuminated green.  Also, when I switch the wireless off, the Bluetooth light turns off and the Bluetooth device in the Device Manager disappears.

I've exhausted my capacity to troubleshoot this issue.  Any help that the EE can provide would be great!

Answer : Bluetooth Not working on Lenovo Thinkpad T60p Widescreen

ok... start from scratch. I think the software/setup program needs to be installed before the driver.
Go into device manager and remove the driver.

Uninstall the bluetooth software
reboot
When it detects the bluetooth device, hit cancel
Install the software/setup program FIRST
reboot and allow to detect the device and install the driver
turn on the bluetooth switch via Fn+F5

test
