Question : Spanning Tree Root

I'm trying to set root spanning tree on my 6506-e. I've run the command:
conf t
spanning-tree vlan 1 root primary
but it does not is still showing different switch with a priority of default 32768 as the root for spanning treel on vlan 1. when i trace down the switch who has taken root, i change the priority to 65535 and it will hand it off to another switch with default priority of 32768, but not my 6506.

How can i get the 6506 to be root???
