Question : XP Crash Recovery

My 5 year old Dell Dimension 8400 had a HDD failure.  I've installed a new HDD and have the old HDD as a 2nd HDD.  I can get to a lot of the old HDD but some critical parts are non accessible.  I need to get to my old Desktop and old My Documents.  When I try to access them i get a permission problem.  Not sure if this is really a permission problem or a bad sector issue. I'm using the same un and pw on the new HDD as the old.

I'm not sure whether to work through accessing as a second drive or reinstalling XP and booting through the old HDD.

When I boot to XP (sp3) CD it asks me where to install the new XP OS.  Ive got 13646 MB free space on the existing partition and 107403 MB on the unpartitioned space on the old HDD.

What is the best way to proceed?

Answer : XP Crash Recovery

As long the lab network will in no way have any connectivity to the production network I don't see why you can't make copies of the DC VM's, and you can use the same IP's as you are now. The easiest way to make a copy is to shutdown the VM and use FastSCP.

You can use Lab Manager if you want to, but it seems like overkill for this.
