Question : Oracle 10g SQLPLUS general

I have a general question about logging in to a SQLPLUS session on Oracle 10g.
I open the SQLPLUS program and I get a login window with ;
User Name
Password
Host String

What is HOST STRING ?

I am trying to run a .sql script against my database, requested by management.
