Yes it's possible, perhaps certain that computing will progress to such level in the future.
The problem is that we will be too reliant on computers. We will be able to find out too much if things like voice recognition and thought processing was completely possibly. I bet there are hundreds of secrets about government etc. that are secret for a reason. If someone had an amazing computer which could read minds or something stupid, think what would happen then!
Although, we are almost at the point where computing is getting so complex, that not a whole life of learning will allow someone to know enough to progress and improve further.
Moving on to artificial intelligence... we cannot create good functioning robots yet, AI is very far away considering how far we have come in the last 100 years of technology. Not many people want to focus or to invent AI because of what you see in the movies.
But we won't be around to see it, so don't worry.
