Question : How to fix problems with Nvidia driver in ubuntu 10.04 on Dell E6400 laptop with external monitor

I'm installing Ubuntu 10.04 on my Dell E6400 laptop with Nvidia NVS 160 graphics card.

When I go to system -> preferences -> monitors, it suggests to use the nvidia driver, OK, then I get the window shown in the screenshot picture.

When the laptop is stand-alone of course I want to use the laptop display, and when it's in the docking station I want to use the external monitor connected to it. Simple, isn't it?

No, the driver seems to insist on a useless annoying setup with two separate desktops, dialog boxes appear on the laptop display when I'm using the external monitor and the cursor gets stuck on one of the monitors etc. Drives me crazy.

I have experimented with editing xorg.conf and tried to use switchconf to choose a modified version of xconf.org at boot time, but I can't make it work. I always end up with the useless dual monitors.
For reference I attach my /etc/X11/xorg.conf (renamed to xorg_conf.txt do allow uploading)

I cannot be the only one having this problem? Thanks for your help.

Answer : How to fix problems with Nvidia driver in ubuntu 10.04 on Dell E6400 laptop with external monitor

it use to happen with me...

All i did was change configuration ( i.e. click on configure and use the option you want and settings you want) and save to x configuration files.

there is an option on extended monitor.

Have you tried that yet?
