Question : T1 bandwidth + throughput

My Question is I should I notice the internet browsing running poorly when I'm doing Microsoft updates on 2 computers on a different network using the same T1 line?

Best overview I can do to describe the customers setup.
Right now the customer has a T1 line that runs approximately 7 servers on different static IPs. The T1 box is in a passthrough mode that feeds to a 10/100 switch which feeds other Linksys, Netgear, and TP-Link routers.
  • 2 of these Servers handles about 7 people using remote desktop into the server.

  • 1 server handles about 10 people that connect at various times transfering files over VPN

  • 4 servers that do odds and ends with minimal connections maybe at most 1 vpn connection and 1 remote connection going to the server.

  • The customer's server is fed by a Linksys WRT54G that feeds a 10/100/1000 smart switch Netgear - GS724t where they run about 6 computers.

  • Then they have a guest network were a 1-3 people that come in out will attach to

I'm not sure if they have enough bandwidth or because the bandwidth isn't being restricted that it is causing problems that comes over to the guest network. Is there also anything else I can do to help out by rearranging the equipment or buying different hardware?

Answer : T1 bandwidth + throughput

Gotcha!

It could be an issue with the primary switch having (from what you've described) so many requests and it just bogs down, not to mention the VPN requests that switch is addressing as well. You may want to look into putting a router (with the necessary equipment to connect to the Adtran) in between your Adtran and your primary switch. Is that primary switch a managed switch? If so, you may want to setup those different 'mini' networks into their own VLANS. The router suggestion will help with the packet management and if you every need to pull in another network with a different subnet and IP address scheme.

Hope this helps some. ^_^
