Question : Generic Windows 7 TWAIN driver needed for Cannon multifunction printer/fax/scanner
I own a Canon MF3240. This is a multifunction machine with printing, fax, and scanning capabilities.
My operating system is the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Professional.
I downloaded the 64 bit Windows 7 dirver from their website. The printer and fax functions work fine. Unfortunately, the driver files do not include a scanner driver.
So,whenever I try to scan a document using the Windows Fax and Scan application in Windows 7, the scanner hangs halfway through the scan. I need to unplug the MF3240 power source and plug it in again to end the hangup.
I called Canon and asked them to help troubleshoot.
They tell me the problem is that they have not created a scanner driver for the 64 bit version of Windows 7. Moreover, they have no plans to do so in the future.
I was told I need a generic version of a TWAIN scanner driver to make the scanning function work.
I've installed a copy of Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 and would like my scans to be done in PDF format.
Where would I find this generic TWAIN driver and how do I install it?
*The 64 bit drivers for Vista also do not contain the scanner driver, so that's unfortunately not a solution.
Thank you!

Sorry, but you need to run a 32-bit version of Win7. No way around it. The application/drivers simply WILL NOT WORK in 64-bit O/S.
