Question : I can receive email but cannot see web pages?

I can send / recieve emails - I can logon to internet via dedicated app software but i cannot see any web pages. (Internet Explorer)
I can ping ant IP addresses OK
Is this a problem with my DNS decoding do-hicky?  (not so technical term)
I turned off firewall but no help.
It started with my wifes computer getting a 'drive-by' virus called something like - WinAntiVirus which kept trying to get me to buy their software, said my conmputer was infected with a hostile virus (doh)  and showed porn pages.  It also blocked any programs from running.  It was messy.  i finally was able to clean it with SuperAntiSpyware and All is back to normal but I cannot see web sites?  It is like the ports are blocked, or the DNS decoder is messed up, or something???
Any ideas how I might fix this.

Answer : I can receive email but cannot see web pages?

If it's just affecting the one computer, I'd look for two things.  First, check your network settings: get a command prompt and do ipconfig /all.  Check to see if the DNS IP address that's listed is the one you expect.

Second, open IE and to go the Tools menu item and then Internet Options and Connections tab and finally the Advanced button.  make sure that nothing is set as a proxy, unless you you are supposed to have a proxy IP address, which at home you most likely are not.
