Question : Change to work hour

Hi, trust me i have done enough reading on this and didn't able to find the solutions. Hope you can help.

I am using Microsoft Office Project 2007 ( 12.0.4518.1014) MSO (12.0.6536.5002). I wish to track my project tasks on hourly basis. I also wish to set my working hour per day is only 6 hours.

Thus, i have modified the Calendar entry from Tools--Option Calendar tab. I have changed the Hours per day to 6.00 Hours per week 30.00 and days per month is 20.

I have even clicked on the set as default and press the OK to take effect.

Then i try to enter a new task, total of 5 tasks. Each task is only taking 2 hours and the date set as 30th June 2010. I also set the predecessor to point to the tasks before that. So, this is the outcome, and it's wrong.

1     Task 1        2 hours           30/6/2010    30/6/2010
2     Task 2        2 hours           30/6/2010    30/6/2010                1
3     Task 3        2 hours           30/6/2010    30/6/2010                2
4     Task 4        2 hours           30/6/2010    30/6/2010                3
5     Task 5        2 hours           1/7/2010      1/7/2010                  4

It's should be because i have set the total working hour is 6. Can you share me which part i have done wrong?

1     Task 1        2 hours           30/6/2010    30/6/2010
2     Task 2        2 hours           30/6/2010    30/6/2010                1
3     Task 3        2 hours           30/6/2010    30/6/2010                2
4     Task 4        2 hours           1/72010       1/7/2010                  3
5     Task 5        2 hours           1/7/2010      1/7/2010                  4

Answer : Change to work hour

I think you can address your requirement changing the Project Calendar.  You do this using the "Change Working Time" option, available at the Tools menu.

At this dialog you need to go to the "Work Weeks" tab at the bottom.  Then you select the [Default] row and press the "Details..." botton.  Then, select EACH day of the week (Monday, Tuesday, ...) and click "Set day(s) to these specific working times:".  In the table at the bottom, you then enter the 6-hour-per-day working schedule (for example: 8:00AM - 12:00 PM / 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM), and finally press OK twice.

At this point your scenario should work.  Please try it and let us know.
