Question : Failed to update schema on windows 2003 sbs migration tool to sbs 2008

I have read several issues around this same issue that I am having.  I have a source server that will not complete the migration prep tool.  It fails with an ADPREP error.  I have change the schema version manually in the registry and rebooted but it still will not run.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I am desperate and need a quick resonse.
