Question : db_installatiion

1)Is it easy to install/configure Oracle Enterprise 11g on Sun Solaris machine?

I was tasked to install/configure/create a DEV DB that is identical to our PROD DB running on IBM AIX 5
I have installed oracle express 9 and enterprise on windows before using DBCA and it seemed very straigforward.
Most of my experience has been application design and deelopment before.

2) Do you need any Unix work or knowledge for this?

3) Is it a 1 day job?

4) What would be the preparation steps  I need to do for this.
Shall I read the install manual or any other good references?

5) Can the installation be done remotely or it has to be local on the server?

1) "Is it easy to install/configure Oracle Enterprise 11g [on any O/S]?"
I would say: no.  I have no UNIX experience, but some experience installing and running Oracle on Linux (plus lots of experience wiht Oracle on Windows, Netware and VMS).

"2) Do you need any Unix work or knowledge for this?"
You may be able to do this without UNIX experience, but you will have to spend time reading the Oracle documentation for installation and configuration on your O/S.

"3) Is it a 1 day job?"
After you've read the documentation and become with familiar with the steps, and practised the install a time or two, you should be able to do it in a day.  I would *NOT* expect that you would get a production-quality install your first time in one day.

"4) What would be the preparation steps I need to do for this?"
Yes, read the install manual and look for other good references on-line.  Also, I would strongly recommend that you plan to run through the install and O/S configuration a time or two before you plan to do the "real" install that you will live with.  This may mean having a good O/S backup that you can restore if you make any mistakes installing Oracle.

"5) Can the installation be done remotely or it has to be local on the server?"
If you have a remote connection to the server, I think you can do the install from a remote location.  For Linux, an Oracle does require a GUI connection.  I use VNC for that.  I'm not sure what the Oracle11/Sun Solaris combination allows/requires for the install.
