Question : quickbooks on DFS

I have 2 W2k8 servers with DFS enabled. Both servers have a shared folder where QB files are stored. The drive is mapped to DFS \\company\files (acctg\qb\file.qbw). "company" resolves to a local server, it depends on the location of course.

When a user attempts to open QB file using \\company\files\acctg\qb\file.qbw it returns an error "Problem with multi-user hosting setup."

However when the same user opens the same file but using actual server name "\\server\files\qb\file.qbw" it works without a problem.

The server has QB Database Server manager with the latest patches/updates installed. What can be wrong that user is unable to open it using DFS name, all other files are opening fine for this and other user. The only problem is with QB files.

Thank you

Answer : quickbooks on DFS

I cannot seem to locate any official word from Intuit whether DFS is or is not supported, but there are a lot of people complaining about it.

Intuit offers some diagnostic tools for Quickbooks, such as the connection tester at http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/networking/nettool.aspx
