Question : does windows media player, itunes etc use any bandwidth when playing songs that are downloaded to your computer?
We are having bandwidth issues at work. Traffic has been recorded and analyzed with a packeteer. Music/media players/iPods etc is one of many issues. I realize streaming music causes a problem but what about Music already downloaded or playing from a cd using these media players. Do the Media players still go out to the internet searching for lyrics, album graphics, updates or anything I am not aware of that would use up any bandwidth? What about MP3 players or ipods and devices as such plugged into a computer? Do they go out to the web searching for updates or anything using up bandwidth?

Windows Media Player does go out and check for information unless you tell it not to in the settings. Can't speak for iTunes.
I don't think any attached devices would unless through the app on the pc that it's synchronizing to.
