Question : Exchange 2003 Mailbox store size difference
If i check the store size on the harddrive by doing propperties on priv1.edb and priv1.stm
i'm getting a total size of 68GB
priv1.edb being: 51,7GB
priv1.stm being: 16.3GB
Which means we're getting close to the maximum of 72GB (no enterprise license).
After i open the mailbox store and put all mailbox sizes together i'm getting 45GB which is a difference of 23GB. Now i've changed the retain deleted messages for 30 days to 1 day.
which would mean after 24 hours from changing that, it should've shrunk. Yet it is still the same size. Also some users have cleaned up their mailboxes 48 hours ago to clean over 2GB.
Is there any way to get the file to shrink to the actual used size?

this because sometimes purging deleted items and deleted mailbox won't exactly shrink the database as expected, you might want to run offline defrag to shrink the database
