You have to copy/move messages rather than the whole folder. Once they are copied/moved you will see a strikethrough on the messages in outlook. This means they are marked for deletion. After the copy/move you have to go to your IMAP server and "purge" the items if you wish to get rid of the messages with the strikethrough on them.
