Question : Thunderbird inexplicably crashing....

I'm having a hard time with Mozilla Thunderbird.  Without any type of warning, the program crashed about four separate times, with the typical "Thunderbird has unexpectedly crashed.  Would you like to Restart or Quit?"  After selecting either option, Microsoft follows up by asking if the user would like to report the problem by sending an error message.  It doesn't happen within the same amount of time every time it happens.  Sometimes it will stay open for an hour or so.  Other times it closes within a few minutes.  Any suggestions?

So, come to find out, the reason for the slow operation and frequent crashing is due to a surplus of emails being sent to one of the addresses connected to my Thunderbird.  There were some 300,000+ emails in just one of the boxes.  Since the emails have started getting deleted, Thunderbird has stopped crashing on me and is slowly but surely getting faster.
