Question : HP procurve Core switch vs standard layer 3 switch

Greetings, I want to know which product you can recommend me.

I need about 48 GB poe lan ports for voip and data network. I need vlan, vlan tagging, trunking, qos protocol. High availability product.

I hesitate between two hp product.. the HP Procurve 4200VL and the HP Procurve 2910AL.

I'm not sure to understand the major feature of a "core" switch like the 4200VL.

Thank you

Answer : HP procurve Core switch vs standard layer 3 switch

With the "core" switch like the 4200VL you are getting more customization and redundancy.  You can configure the switch with different hot-swappable blades (i.e. a 24port Gb switch or a 4port GBIC switch).  You also can get a secondary power supply for redundancy.

With the 2910AL you are getting the same software features as the 4200VL with fixed ports and no redundant power supply. However they are stackable.

So, the question is if you want the ability to change out hot-swappable blades and have the redundant power supply.  If not 2910AL should serve you just fine.
