What is the zone used for? If it's for both public and private use I reckon stepping back and re-thinking it would be most appropriate.
It's extremely difficult, or in some cases impossible, to get a DNS zone to work correctly as both a public zone and a zone for AD. In those cases it's generally better to go for a Split Brain approach, and if you're using MS DNS that means two separate DNS servers.
