Question : FAST Search server for Sharepoint 2010 does not index pdf files

I've finally managed the installation of FAST for sharepoint 2010. It's running smmothly as long as MS documents are concerned. After some research, I've enabled the Advanced Filter Pack (albeit I still can't understand why it's not enabled by default and I still son't know what's included in the advanced pack).

However, each time I try to index a pdf, I receive this warning: The FAST Search backend reported warnings when processing the item. ( Document conversion failed:

To make sure, I've pushed a pdf into the collection on the FAST server:

PS C:\FASTSearch\tmp> docpush -c sp .\en062410.pdf

[2010-06-24 11:52:58.481] WARNING    sp Reported warning with http://cohowinery.com/.\en062410.pdf: processing::Document conversion failed:

[2010-06-24 11:52:58.481] INFO       sp All add operations completed

Any help greatly appreciated since we've a LOT of pdf files to index.

I've seen a solution based on an external iFilter. I'd rather avoid this onebased on third party  since FAST is meant to index PDF out of the box

Answer : FAST Search server for Sharepoint 2010 does not index pdf files

No I didn't want to use an external filter since FAST is meant to index PDF out of the box. Using a 3rd party filter would lead to performance issues.

Nevertheless, I found out what was the glitch. The Account used for the connector MUST be the same used for stating FAST services. Don't ask me why (if you use docpush on the FAST server, you don't even use sharepoint and the push is denied by FAST.

Anyway, now, the crawl and the index work like a charm.
