Question : Windows XP user can't browse by name, only by IP address
A user can not reconnect a network drive on a certain server or browse to the server by name. However, the user can ping the server by name and it returns the correct IP. The user can also browse the server by IP.
The problem illustrated:
Typing \\servername in Run or using \\servername\sharename as the location for the network drive returns an error that the network location cannot be found. However, pinging servername returns the correct IP for the server and \\192.168.1.10 (example IP address) can be used in place of servername in run or as the network drive location.
The user can view \\secondservername fine using both Run and using \\secondservername\seconds
harename as another network drive location.
Please let me know if you need any more information when trying to resolve this issue. Any help is greatly appreciated!
