Question : Ubuntu: automatically connect to wireless modem

Hello! I have an Ubuntu machine with the latest stable distro. I'm using a 3G modem to connect to the Internet. It's configured to connect using the modem automatically, which works at boot. But my problem is that if it disconnects, it won't automatically reconnect. I think I remember having the same problem with a WiFi connection before too.

The machine shuts down automatically at night, and reboots automatically the next morning. Internet disconnects a few hours later and then does not reconnect. I'm wondering if I could make a script that preiodically check the connection and reconnects if necessary?

Modem is a USB device.

Answer : Ubuntu: automatically connect to wireless modem

You must be running old version of Ubuntu (Although you've stated it's latest stable, I doubt so).. I had the same problem till Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala). But ever since I started using Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), it automatically reconnects.
Download the latest version of Ubuntu: http://www.ubuntu.com/
Or, if it is already latest, try this cron script:
