Question : Number Pad Keys

Hi, I have a Macbook laptop (the white $999 one) and I need to use the keyboard number keys in one of my graphic applications (i.e. Blender), however, I'm not sure how to map the laptop keyboard keys to the number-pad keys. Can someone help me understand what key sequence I would need to press to emulate the keypad keys?

For instance if I needed to press the number pad "1" key, what key sequence would I use on the Macbook's keyboard?

Why would you not just press the "1" key?  Why do you need to map anything?
