Question : xp pro machine as print server bt cant print from windows 7 PC

Hi Experts.

I have been battling with my problem all day. I cant understand why i have had such difficulty in this.

I have had a hp laserjet 4200 printer for over 1 year now. This printer is not a network printer so i have shared the printer from one xp pro service pack 3 machine. 3 Machines print off it.  We have just purchased a windows 7 pro machine (64-bit) and i want  this machine to print like the others are.
I have tried so many things which i might not detail here as i would like to start again and work through it. One thing i will say is that i followed a suggested article http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/4602-xp-7-printer-sharing.html from Jimbo45. So many people on the net have used this and have said it worked for them but at step 6 it does not load a driver and asks me to supply one but even if it install ok i still cant print. I have tried a few drivers off the hp site.

What can i do to get this Windows 7 machine to print from the XP machine.

Extra info.

I was going to make the windows 7 machine my print server but i have no parallel connection at the back of it. I have been considering a db25 to usb cable but want to try get this working as it should first.

Also cant install a windows 7 64 bit driver on the xp machine as its not compatible.

Please help. Thx

I've had to do this the other way around (32 bit clients/64 bit server), but the solution is the same... The drivers have to match *exactly*. So download both the 32 and 64-bit version fo the driver for you printer from the manufacturer. The MS-supplied ones aren't always the same version.
