Question : HP Laserjet 2420 not printing the first time when connected via usb from a laptop

Thank you for taking my question.
Background information:
I have an HP Laserjet 2420 printer that is connected to a laptop via a USB cable.  The laptop is a Lenevo ThinkPad T400.  The laptop is running XP SP3 with the latest updates installed.  Both the laptop and the printer are running perfectly fine ... no issues.
Problem:
My problem is this: when the user first comes into the office in the morning and boots up their laptop, no printout will print to the printer until the user powers down then powers up the printer.  Once the user powers down/up the printer, they are fine the rest of the day ... all printouts come out just fine.
What I have tried:
I have updated the print driver to the latest laserjet 2420 print driver; but this did not correct the problem.  I know that I can probably use a parallel cable instead of a usb cable, but I want to stick with the usb cable if possible.
Help:
The user states that they are okay with powering down/up the printer everyday, but they shouldn't have to do that ... so any help will be appreciated.  Please note that this exact same scenario is occuring with a second user too.

Answer : HP Laserjet 2420 not printing the first time when connected via usb from a laptop

It is a hardware problem, not software.  If there is any chance of fixing it softwarewise, it would be in firmware updates for the printers; though even that is iffy.

Networking the printers would definitely solve the problem as they would no longer be flooded with spurious data overnight and there is no reason why they couldn't still be only available to one user.  Set them to a static ip, change the port on the desired user to that ip, and, poof, you're done.
