Question : All network adapters displaying yellow explanation marks

I have had several customers come to me in the past few weeks with the same issue.
All network adapters are displaying yellow explanation marks in device manager.
They are all running Windows XP SP3.

I noticed through the event viewer that there had been a windows update (only one but I cannot remember what it was called)
I ran a malwarebytes scan but found no issues there.
Removing the drivers and reinstalling them did not work.
CCleaner did not solve the issue either.

I have managed to find a workaround of repairing the OS using the Windows CD but I was wondering if someone had found a quicker fix or even what is actually causing it?!?!
