Question : WP 404 File Not Found reported for  protected file and not logged in

WP is intercepting and reporting Error 404
for the case that the viewer is not logged in for an htaccess protected directory.

How can i get WP to allow the viewer to login to the protected directory?

you need to reset file permissions on the htaccess file. Your host can help with this.
