Question : Demoting 2003 DC after introducing first 2008 DC

Hi,

I have introduced first 2008 R2 DC for the forest last week, since then everthing is working fine. So currently we have the following setup.

Office 1
=====
DC 1 - Windows 2003 with DNS (AD integrated DNS)
DC3 - Windows 2008 (all FSMO roles holder) with DNS (AD integrated DNS) and WINs
Member Server - Running exchange 2003

Office 2
DC2 - Windows 2003 with DNS (AD integrated DNS)

I have disabled DCHP on DC1 and setup DCHP on the DC3, so clients gets IP address from DC3 now.

For last two days I have removed the DC1 network connection and everything works fine other than the replication (Obviously..)

Now my plan is to remove DC1 from the network. Can any experts give me good intructions how to remove this server and what need to be considered before demoting DC1?

Thanks in advance.
Shal

Answer : Demoting 2003 DC after introducing first 2008 DC

So long as all roles ahve been moved and nothing is relying on the DC that you want to remove (like DNS, DHCP etc) just run dcpromo on it and it will go through the demotion process, once that is done you can remove it from the domain and recycle it etc.
