Question : GP folder redirection. cant turn off

Hi Experts,

we have a Problem with the policy, that is used to redirect the users desktop. we had set up this policy and created some users afterwards. then we noticed, that there are problems with another program when you use folder redirection. so we decided to switch off the policy.

every user, which was created after switching off the policy again, has its complete roaming profile in the corresponding share on the sever. this is what we want.

but those who were created and first loged in while the policy was active, still write the desktop in the redirection-folder.

how do we finally switch off this for every user? we now just want normal roaming profiles for the users. so one profile-folder on the share and the desktop in it.

it is important, that the users dont loose their made settings and links on the desktop. so i think we have to somehow copy the content of the redirection-folder to \\server\profiles$\johndoe\Desktop. But first thing will be to force that this folder is effectivly used as desktop.

can anyone help?

Folder redirections policies behave like this if not correctly removed, they have caused me headcahes in the past for the very same reasons.

I would maybe investigate client registry settings, search for the path where folders are being redirected and see if you can manually change them. Also see if you can reinstate the policy and remove it correctly also the policy my still exist in the sysvol folder of your dc's.
